Brightside Health Review: What It Costs and What to Know

Brightside Health offers online therapy and psychiatry for adults, plus therapy and psychiatry for teens ages 13 to 17. As of September 11, 2026, its FAQ listed the conditions it treats as anxiety, depression and a range of other concerns, including ADHD, adjustment disorder, bipolar I and II without acute mania, generalized anxiety disorder, insomnia, major depressive disorder, OCD, panic disorder, postpartum depression, PTSD, PMDD, seasonal affective disorder, social anxiety, and suicidal thoughts and feelings.

Brightside also offers a Suicide Prevention Program and an Intensive Outpatient Program for adults needing a higher level of support. Its FAQ, checked the same date, said online care is not a good fit for ongoing high-risk self-harm behavior, schizophrenia or symptoms of psychosis, some cases of bipolar I or acute mania, medically unstable eating disorders, or severe cognitive impairment.

As of September 11, 2026, Brightside's FAQ listed its self-pay psychiatry plan at $95 a month plus your pharmacy copay if you have prescription benefits, covering a comprehensive evaluation and ongoing support. Its therapy plan was listed at $299 a month for four video sessions plus unlimited messaging, with additional 55-minute sessions available at $59 each. A combined psychiatry and therapy plan was listed at $349 a month, which the FAQ describes as a savings of $45. Teen therapy was listed at the same $299 a month, and teen psychiatry plus therapy at $349 a month, on the same date.

If you choose to have your prescriptions delivered, Brightside's FAQ said the cost is $15 per fill or your copay if your prescription benefits are accepted by the mail order pharmacy, as of September 11, 2026. If you pick up locally instead, Brightside said it does not cover that cost, and the price depends on your pharmacy, though GoodRx coupons may help.

Brightside's site gives several answers to how soon you can be seen. As of September 11, 2026, the top of its homepage said "Appointments in as little as 24 hours," a feature heading lower on the homepage said "Appointments in as little as 2 days," and a site banner shown on its homepage and other pages said "Appointments as soon as today." Its insurance page said 2 days "is the typical time until the first appointment," and its psychiatry page said that because Brightside is 100% virtual, it is "often able to connect you with someone in as little as 2 days."

Brightside's insurance page, checked September 11, 2026, listed the commercial and exchange plans it currently accepts, including Aetna (nationwide), Ambetter (all states except eight it lists), several regional Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, Cigna (nationwide) and UnitedHealthcare (nationwide). It listed Anthem for California, with ten other states marked coming soon, and Carelon (nationwide) as coming soon. It separately listed state-specific Medicaid plans and a set of Medicare plans, including Medicare Advantage plans, Original Medicare Part B and Wellcare, and said coverage varies by state. Brightside's FAQ said that if your insurance is Cigna, all of your care will be covered, while with its other insurance partners you may be responsible for a small member fee.

If you do not have accepted coverage, Brightside says self-pay options start at $95 a month, and that it accepts HSA and FSA cards. If you have insurance that doesn't cover Brightside, its insurance page said you can request a superbill to send to your insurance for possible reimbursement, as of September 11, 2026.

For cancellations, Brightside's FAQ said its psychiatry plan does not carry a refund once your initial scheduled consultation has passed, and that therapy subscription payments are non-refundable, billed monthly, though you can cancel at any time. To actually cancel, Brightside directs you to its account portal under Settings, then Manage Plan, then the cancel option for your specific plan. Its FAQ also asks that you reschedule an appointment more than 24 hours in advance and says missed appointments may result in a no-show fee of up to $200 per its Terms of Service.

Brightside's FAQ page describes its ADHD prescribing two different ways. As of September 11, 2026, its answer to "What mental health conditions do you treat?" listed "ADHD (therapy and non-stimulant medication)." Its answer to "Do you treat ADHD?" on the same page said that in select states its psychiatric providers "prescribe stimulant medications when determined to be clinically appropriate in their independent judgment," that "This is only available to members with insurance at this time," and that providers may also offer non-stimulant options. Its answer to "What medications do we prescribe?" said Brightside providers may prescribe certain stimulants for members using insurance in select states, and listed Arizona, Oregon and Washington. That answer, and Brightside's medications and psychiatry pages, say Brightside does not prescribe benzodiazepines, "Z-drug" sleep medications such as Ambien, or gabapentin in states where it is considered a controlled medication.

Brightside's Suicide Prevention Program, while listed as available in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., is described as available only to individuals with accepted insurance at this time, according to its FAQ checked September 11, 2026. If you would be paying out of pocket, that specific program is not something the FAQ says you can access.

Brightside's FAQ publishes an FDA black box warning notice for SSRIs and similar medications, noting they may increase suicidal thoughts or behavior, particularly if you are aged 24 or younger, and lists other risks including serotonin syndrome and an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when SSRIs are combined with NSAIDs.

Brightside's homepage cites three outcome figures next to studies it names as JMIR 2022, BMC 2022 and Cureus 2022, covering suicidal thoughts, remission and response rates compared with a health system it does not name. This review checked only that Brightside's page cites those studies this way; it did not independently verify the studies themselves. Neither the homepage stat block nor the testimonials shown near it on the homepage or insurance page carry a note that results are not typical.

Brightside's published self-pay prices and its list of accepted insurance plans, including several Medicare and Medicaid options, may suit you if you want to check a specific plan by name before signing up.
